Voc ed creditable service bill is law
Senate Bill 2057, which allows creditable service for vocational education teachers, is now law!
By unanimous roll-call votes on Sept. 15, the House and Senate overrode Gov. Mitt Romney's veto of the bill.
SB 2057 enables vocational education teachers to buy back up to three years of creditable service toward retirement for work experience in their occupational field that was required by the Department of Education in order for them to be licensed to teach.
"This victory caps years of effort by voc ed activists and MTA lobbyist Jack Flannagan to secure this important benefit," said MTA President Catherine A. Boudreau. She also praised Sen. Michael Morrissey (D-Quincy), the bill's main sponsor, "for his efforts on behalf of voc ed teachers."
