Private school creditable service bill sent to House Ways and Means
On July 17, the State Senate passed S1631 (known as engrossment) and on July 21 the bill was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee for its review. This committee’s approval is necessary before it can be referred to the House floor for a vote.
It would be helpful for educators affected by this bill to contact their own State Representatives asking them to lobby the Chairman of House Ways and Means (State Rep. Robert DeLeo, D-Winthrop) to report the bill favorably. (The House of Representatives switchboard number is 617-722-2000.)
The legislative session continues until December 31, 2008, but persistent lobbying of one’s own representative needs to begin now. Additional updates will be posted as developments warrant.
