Legislature overrides Romney's $10M cut to UMass

The Legislature has overridden Gov. Mitt Romney's veto of $10 million, from the supplementary budget, for the University of Massachusetts.

The House voted 140-10 for the override on Jan. 14; the Senate followed on Jan. 15 with a vote of 36-1.

MTA President Catherine A. Boudreau praised the Legislature's action and singled out the work of Sen. Stanley Rosenberg (D-Amherst).

"He put this initiative together and began pushing for it back in July, when the UMass budget was cut so severely," Boudreau said. "His efforts have now paid off in a significant way, not only for UMass, but for our entire Commonwealth, which depends on public higher education as the engine of its economy."
