Social Security Fairness bill gathers more cosponsors

Congress returned on January 20th and the fruits of the hard work of activists were evident as nine new cosponsors added their names to H.R. 594, the Social Security Fairness Act.  This brings our total to 285 cosponsors, including two non-voting members.  (Note that one cosponsor, Ernie Fletcher of Kentucky, has been removed from the list because he left the House to become Governor of his state.)

The latest additions are:

John Lewis (D-GA)
Mark Kirk (R-IL)
Bill Young (R-FL)
Kendrick Meek (D-FL)
Bob Goodlatte (R-VA)
Anthony Weiner (D-NY)
Chaka Fattah (D-PA)
Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD)
John Peterson (R-PA)

The Senate total remains at 29.

Complete lists of House and Senate cosponsors are available on the NEA Web site at www.nea.org/lac/socsec.

Look for additional updates soon on our strategy for getting the legislation moving during this congressional session.
