Hearing on "low performing" schools bill is Tuesday

The hearing will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m., room A2 before the Joint Education Committee. The bill (H 4544) was filed after the release of the governor's task force report on Underperforming Schools.

The bill would accerlate the process by which schools are deemed to be "low performing." Once a school has received that label it would allow superintendents to resassign staff and remove teachers for "good cause" instead of "just cause."

MTA members who are interested in testifying on the bill should contact Julie Johnson, Div. of Governmental Services, 617-878-8315, for more information on the hearing and the bill.
