The voc-ed creditable service bill (SB1559) was engrossed (i.e., passed) by the State Senate June 3 and sent to the House for its consideration. The bill had languished in the Senate since last fall but through lobbying persistence, the work of the voc-ed coalition and the hard work of Sen. Michael Morrissey (D-Quincy), the bill has now cleared the Senate. Sen. Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester) representing the Senate minority also gave the "green light" for passage.
WHAT DO VOC-ED TEACHERS NEED TO DO NOW?
All grassroots lobbying now must be focused on your State Representatives. Your own representatives must be called now asking them to lobby House Speaker Finneran and House Chair of Ways and Means John Rogers to bring SB1559 to a vote on the House floor.
Again, your most effective "message" is to emphasize how important passage of SB1559 will be for the recruitment and retention of voc-ed teachers.
If you do not know your representative's phone number, he or she may be reached by calling the House switchboard at 617-722-2000 and ask to be transferred to their office. Letters may be sent to your representatives office at the State House, Boston, MA 02133.
