The House and Senate overrode Gov. Mitt Romney's veto today and restored $30 million in no-interest loan access to the cash-strapped City of Springfield. The override vote was 135-21 in the House and 38-0 in the Senate.
Romney had signed the remainder of the Springfield bill on Friday, but had used his veto power to reduce the loan amount from $52 million to $20 million.
Thanks to advocacy by MTA members and staff, the bill signed by Romney does not include any reductions in employee rights or benefits, though the governor had sought authority to make such changes.
