Squeezing hard-working higher ed faculty and staff?

Governor Deval Patrick’s budget gives higher education employees a pay cut. The next action on proposed increases in health insurance premiums will take place when your representative and senator consider the state budget.

The governor’s budget would mean a pay cut for faculty and staff. If the state Legislature follows the governor’s lead, up to 58,000 state employees may experience hikes in their health insurance premiums of as much as 66 percent — up to $51 per month for an individual plan and $120 per month for a family plan.

Tell your state rep and senator that public higher education is the key to building the state’s knowledge-based economy, and it is crucial for Massachusetts to attract and retain high-quality faculty and staff.

Urge them not to support raising health insurance premiums for state employees in their budget proposal.
