Stand hearing set for April 10

The Legislature’s Joint Committee on Education has scheduled a hearing on House and Senate bills that mirror the Stand for Children ballot initiative, which the MTA and other education stakeholders strongly oppose because it would not help students succeed.

The hearing will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, in Room B1 at the State House.

MTA President Paul Toner and AFT Massachusetts President Tom Gosnell will testify against the bills, which are House 3883 and Senate 2197.

The hearing is part of the standard process for all ballot petitions. The Legislature does not have the ability to amend or remove the initiative from the ballot.
