MTA markets Ashburton Place headquarters
As the staff, the union’s leaders and many members are aware, the MTA is exploring the sale of its headquarters at 20 Ashburton Place in Boston.
In August, the MTA Board of Directors voted to authorize the engagement of Jones Lang Lasalle, a commercial real estate firm, to market the building. The staff was notified at that time, and the building is now being listed.
No decisions have been made other than to explore the possible sale of 20 Ashburton Place, according to MTA Executive Director-Treasurer Ann Clarke.
Clarke said the marketing is occurring as the MTA looks at its options for meeting the future needs of the union’s members.
If the process produces offers, the MTA will have further decisions to make, including whether the building should be sold.
Should a sale occur, the association may relocate some or all of the employees now in Boston.
The staff in Boston and employees in regional offices around the state serve the MTA’s approximately 110,000 members, who educate students from prekindergarten to graduate school in the Commonwealth’s public schools, colleges and universities.
