2014 Annual Meeting gaveled to order

MTA President Paul Toner called the association’s 2014 Annual MTA Meeting of Delegates to order at noon on Friday, May 9, at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. More than 1,455 delegates were registered for the two-day meeting, the association’s 169th such gathering. The delegates remembered Colleen Ritzer, a math teacher in Danvers who was slain at her school, and other educators who have died in the past year. U.S. Senator Edward Markey and AFT Massachusetts President Tom Gosnell greeted the delegates. Greg Anrig, vice president for policy and programs at The Century Foundation, delivered the keynote address. Speeches by candidates for MTA president and vice president and action on new business items followed.

Here's a look at the first day of the two-day meeting.
