Professional Success – Professional Survival for Early Career Educators/MTA New Members

MTA 2008 Summer Conference
Williams College, Williamstown
August 3-7, 2008

Who should attend?
Educators/MTA members in their first five years of practice.

Why spend five days in the beautiful Berkshires?
You’ll meet great people. You’ll have a lot of fun. You’ll master the maze of rules, responsibilities and demands placed on K-12 public school educators.

  • What is the program about?
Rules: How you are increasingly accountable for the success of your students and more.
  • Power: Who controls what you teach and how you teach it: from the Governor, Legislature and Board of Education to the local school committee and administrators to your local teachers association.
  • Alliances: Relationships with colleagues and administrators, students and parents and how they all affect your success.
  • Benefits: Working conditions and collective bargaining: your health, safety, hours, workload and salary.

Will you be able to get other nagging questions answered on subjects such as licensure?
Yes!

What is the program not about?
The program is not about classroom issues such as differentiating instruction or classroom management.

Who runs the program?
Members of MTA’s New Teacher Committee; all are alumni of the program.

How do I sign up?
Register online here.

What is the deadline?
June 13, 2008.

Is registration limited?
First-come, first-served; there may be limitations per district based on number of members.
