Union Power
All In: Building Union Power

We are better at our craft and more powerful advocates for ourselves and our students if we work collectively through our unions. Through MTA’s All In effort, we are building that power with intentional one-to-one member conversations at the local and chapter levels.

All In Building Union Power
Legislative Action
Legislative Action

Our legislative priorities articulate the MTA's long-term vision and reflect our shared commitment to public education, fairness for all workers in our communities, and a secure retirement for public-sector employees.

Charter Schools
Charter Schools

Commonwealth charter schools are publicly funded schools that are privately operated with no local oversight. They hurt students who attend public schools by siphoning hundreds of millions of dollars from Massachusetts school districts.

Additional Initiatives

Ending Gun Violence
Students have taken the lead in demanding a strong response to the mass shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14 — and the MTA is prepared to support members who participate in actions.
Every Student Succeeds Act
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed into law by President Barack Obama in December 2015.
Fair Share Amendment
If we are serious about helping working families and building a stronger economy for everyone in Massachusetts, we must invest in our public schools, public higher education and a transportation system that works.
High Stakes Testing
MTA members are joining with parents, students and educators to push back against the overuse of standardized testing
Legislative Action
Our legislative priorities articulate the MTA's long-term vision and reflect our shared commitment to public education
Opposing Privatization
Massachusetts made history in November 2016 when voters overwhelmingly rejected a ballot measure seeking to raise the cap on charter schools.
'Personalized Learning' and Technology
The unproven “personalized learning” movement is growing.
S-60/ORP
In 1994, public higher education faculty and some staff were given the option of participating in the Optional Retirement Program, an alternative to the Massachusetts State Employees’ Retirement System.
State Takeover Zones
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has placed schools and districts in receivership for years.
