The NEA and the MTA offer both annual and lifetime retired membership options. The MTA membership year runs from July 1 through June 30.

Annual dues payers receive a renewal bill each summer. Membership cards for the forthcoming year are issued upon receipt of the renewal dues payment.

Lifetime membership requires a one-time dues payment. Membership automatically rolls forward into each new membership year and a card request is generated each August.

Membership cards are accepted by vendors through the end of August each year (rather than June) to allow time for the issuance of new annual cards.

As of 2021, NEA Retired membership is available at a reduced rate for Education Support Professionals for their work to keep students healthy, safe, supported, engaged and challenged so they are ready to learn. ESPs include school employees in the following job families:

The NEA and MTA are unified organizations, so you must select one level of each to join, but you can mix and match annual and lifetime memberships.
