Solidarity with Minnesota
Massachusetts in solidarity with Minnesota
Published: January 21, 2026

On Friday, January 23, we invite members to wear blue in solidarity with the Minneapolis AFL-CIO’s call for a general strike to oppose ICE’s escalating raids and operations in Minneapolis and to stand with immigrant workers and families everywhere.

Here are some ways to show your support

WEAR BLUE and gather with your coworkers before or after school and post on social media.

  • Post photos or videos and change your social media profile to show solidarity.
    • Tag @massteacher and use the hashtag #ICEOutSchools in your social media posts.
    • Don’t have time to post? What if your local doesn’t have a social media presence? Email your pics/videos to the MTA at [email protected] for sharing on MTA accounts. Please include your name and the name of your local.
  • Add your name to the Education Minnesota's petition calling for dignity, safety and justice for immigrant communities. You can sign here.
  • At 3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, join the MTA and other union members in the Massachusetts AFL-CIO in a protest at the South Bay Center, 8 Allstate Road, Dorchester, to stand in solidarity with Minnesota and oppose ICE’s escalating raids and operations in Minneapolis and beyond. Look for the MTA flag near Home Depot to gather with fellow members and proceed to the rally. Bring friends, family members and co-workers –  our collective presence matters.

  • ICE makes our schools less safe. I demand ICE agents stay away from them so educators and students can focus on what’s most important – teaching and learning. #ICEOutSchools
  • Public education is a right. Every child deserves to attend a safe, welcoming public school, but that cannot happen with ICE agents circling school buildings and bus stops. I demand ICE stay away from our schools! #ICEOutSchools
  • ICE is disrupting learning and putting students, families and school staff at risk. This is not a partisan issue — it is a moral one. Stay away from our schools! #ICEOutSchools
