About MTA

Collective Power Is Where Our Strength Lives
MTA has affiliates across Massachusetts, bringing together the expertise, drive and dedication of 117,000 educators to advance justice and excellence in public education.
Our members bring their experiences working at every level of education to shape our organization and impact. Here’s who we are and how we do it.

Mission

The MTA represents 117,000 members across 400 local associations throughout Massachusetts. Our members include teachers, faculty, professional staff and Education Support Professionals working in public schools, colleges and universities statewide.

Our Leaders

The president and vice president are elected to two-year terms by the delegates to the MTA Annual Meeting, which is held annually in April or May. Delegates also elect the members of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee.

MTA members support students in every role and responsibility, in Massachusetts public schools, colleges and universities.

Our Affiliates

The MTA proudly represents locals and chapters from Pittsfield to Provincetown.

Our History

Founded in 1845, the MTA has been a powerful voice for educators, students, and the common good for nearly two centuries.

Bargaining Strength

Bargaining is the powerful tool we use to demand fair wages and benefits and create the workplaces we deserve. Members within each local define the priorities they want to achieve through bargaining, and the grievance process gives us the ability to enforce our workplace rights.
