On July 15, Governor Maura Healey introduced a $100 million supplemental budget for FY27 that would provide all public school districts with an additional $112 in per student aid above and beyond their baseline Chapter 70 aid for FY27. This appropriation, which would come directly from the Fair Share funds that MTA members led the fight to win, is urgently needed to help prevent devastating cuts in our communities. While we know that even more funding is needed to fully address the fiscal crisis, this supplemental budget is a meaningful step and one that is a direct result of MTA members and allies demanding bold action to support our schools.

This supplemental budget now requires action by both the House and Senate before the funds can reach our school districts, which is why we need your help. Please call your state representative and senator right away to let them know that educators in their district are counting on the House and Senate to pass this supplemental budget as soon as possible.

This additional funding would help prevent cuts to student-facing positions and save programs – from academics to the arts – that ensure our students are getting the comprehensive, well-rounded education they deserve.
