In this interactive workshop, participants will learn about four specific disorders to understand the similarities and differences between autism, executive function, ADD and pragmatic language. The social and emotional effect of these disabilities on the student will be considered.  Approaches to working with these challenging students using evidence-based best practices strategies will be discussed holistically.

This program meets DESE requirements for 15 PDPs in the category of Special Education.

This asynchronous workshop will be via Google Classroom beginning on April  3, 2023. There are no required Zoom meetings. 

All work must be completed by May 15, 2023.

DESE has released a new set of Guidelines for teachers on how to identify, screen, and work with students with dyslexia. This course is designed to go through each of the chapters of the guideline, give an explanation and provide supplemental materials to support them. 

Your role will be to read the materials and reflect on them through the lens of your school, and what you, your colleagues and your admin can do to make sure these guidelines are shared and being followed. A final assessment will be taken at the end of the course.

This program meets DESE requirements for 15 PDPs in the category of   Special Education during each 5-year Professional License Renewal cycle.

MTA members may understand the importance of culturally responsive practices at school yet struggle to incorporate the idea into their practice-particularly for English learners. In this course, teachers will learn and implement a framework for culturally responsive teaching and the "how" of what this looks and sounds like in classrooms. 

Using a case study model, educators will discuss problems of practice and construct new classroom practices reflectively. By the end of this course, MTA educators will articulate foundational concepts for culturally relevant pedagogy for ELs and create overarching goals for a more embedded culturally relevant teaching practice.

This program meets DESE requirements for 15 PDPs in the category of Sheltered English Immersion/English as a Second Language during each 5 year Professional License Renewal cycle.

This synchronous course will have two ZOOM meetings on April 18 & 20, 2023 from 9:00AM to 1:30 PM each day.

Raising Multiculturally Kids (RMK) is a non-profit organization  dedicated to increasing racial and cultural competency in local communities by partnering with schools, educational experts, and local citizens.Their “RMK in the Classroom” workshop is  designed to deepen the professional development of early educators on the topics of trauma competency, culturally responsive teaching practices and RMK’s Civics, 

Advocacy and Justice principles. Participants will gain a   greater understanding of how to implement their Diversity, Equity, and   Inclusion (DEI) knowledge into lesson development, so they can better meet the varied needs of their students and the State of Massachusetts’ DEI goals on   the topics of race, culture, language, socio-economic status, ability, and family structure.  

This program meets DESE requirements for 15 PDPs in the category of training in strategies for effective schooling for students with disabilities and instruction of students with diverse learning styles during each 5-year Professional License Renewal cycle.

This synchronous workshop will have two ZOOM meetings on April 18th & 19th, 2023 from 9AM to 3PM each day. 

All work must be completed by May 4, 2023.
