Learn with the MTA and Earn PDPs

Format: Asynchronous course from February 9 to April 10.

This course guides educators through a transformative shift in how they design, deliver, and evaluate student learning. Participants will explore assessment practices that promote growth, confidence, and agency. Through videos, practical examples, hands-on redesigns, and reflection, teachers will learn how to create assessments that more accurately reflect learning, support a growth mindset, and empower students to take ownership of their progress. By the end of the course, participants will redesign a unit using growth-focused practices and develop extension opportunities that challenge all learners beyond basic proficiency.

Participants who complete all assignments will receive 15 PDPs in Curriculum and Instruction.

Format: Zoom meetings on April 21-23 from 12 p.m to 2 p.m. Additional work required.

This course will explore various theories of motivation, including intrinsic, extrinsic and expectancy theories, among others. We will unpack how to operationalize these theories in your classroom so that your students are excited to learn. 

Participants who attend all sessions and complete all assignments will earn 15 PDPs in Curriculum & Instruction.

Format: Zoom meetings on February 4, 11, 25 and March 4 from 4 p.m to 7 p.m. Additional work required.

This workshop invites educators to examine how inequities show up in everyday school practices and to reimagine their roles as agents of change. Through guided reflection, discussion, and practical application, participants will deepen their critical consciousness and explore strategies that support belonging, agency, and equitable learning experiences. Each session builds toward an actionable plan for shifting from insight to meaningful practice—grounded in liberatory, culturally sustaining principles. 

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

1,. Identify how inequitable systems and narratives show up in curriculum, instruction, and school interactions.

2.  Reflect on the impact of classroom and school decisions on student belonging and opportunity.

3.  Use culturally and linguistically sustaining strategies to strengthen learning experiences, especially for multilingual learners.

4.  Develop a clear, manageable action plan to move from awareness to practice using a seeing → engaging →acting approach.

Participants who attend all sessions and complete all assignments will earn 15 PDPs in Safe & Supportive Schools.

Format: Zoom meetings on March 2,5,9 and 12 from 4:30 p.m to 7:30 p.m. Additional work required.

This interactive, four-part workshop invites educators to step back, reflect deeply, and rebuild their practice from the inside out. Brave Teaching explores the beliefs, values, and everyday decisions that shape who we are in the classroom—and who our students need us to be. Through a blend of lecture, guided discussions, and hands-on activities, participants will examine the heart of teaching: connection, clarity, courage, and consistency.

We begin by setting the stage, uncovering the core beliefs and personal mission that drive your work. You’ll reflect on who you are as an educator, what you believe about students, and how to stay grounded, present, and future-focused.

The second segment centers on knowing and accepting your students—and yourself. Together, we will explore what kind of teacher your students learn best from, assess the full range of student skills, identify meaningful learning goals for them and for yourself, and celebrate every small victory along the way.

Next, we enter the world of “Mission Impossible: Motivation.” This segment examines what makes your classroom a place students want to be. Through practical techniques—rituals, routines, SEL lenses, whiteboard messages, Love and Logic strategies—we’ll analyze the differences between control and management and articulate the classroom values that drive accountability and responsibility.

Finally, we close with Being Brave. Grounded in the themes of the song “Brave,” participants will discuss the art of difficult conversations, explore ways to step into the teacher they aspire to be, and build the courage to act with clarity and consistency even when it’s hard.

By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a renewed sense of purpose, practical tools for immediate implementation, and the confidence to teach with intention, compassion, and courage.
