Key Facts

  • Every MTA preK-12 local association can apply for a voucher to purchase a large quantity of books for groups of students. The Massachusetts Child, MTA’s charitable organization, is partnering with First Book, a national nonprofit providing high-quality educational materials to financially disadvantaged students.

  • First Book will provide vouchers valued at $5 per student and that can be redeemed online at First Book marketplace, where thousands of titles are sold at greatly reduced prices.

  • This program is meant to celebrate reading, so we ask that locals plan a joyful event for distributing the books. Plan for books to arrive at least up to 14 days after a purchase with voucher is completed.

  • Funds are limited for the amount of vouchers Mass Child can provide, so apply as soon as possible. Applying does not guarantee approval for the entire request.
