"Since my retirement, I have had time to reflect on the public education system. Although it has educated fine people, we have grossly ignored the growing number of students who wish to follow a vocational path. Our towns and cities need to advocate for more vocational schools that are attainable, with adaptive careers that meet our complex, modern society and community needs, including paramedics, lab researchers, environmental testers, veterinarian technicians, farmers, groomers, HVAC technicians, big machine operators, carpenters and dispatchers. We need to offer alternatives to the four-year college path and demand living wages. This will enable our graduates to provide for their families with pride and dignity."
