U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon is no longer visiting a school in Waltham on Tuesday, prompting the coalition of parents, educators and public education advocates who planned to protest to cancel its demonstration. The coalition issued the following statement:

"We are pleased to hear that U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon has cut short her propaganda tour in Massachusetts and will not be visiting the Lumen Academy in Waltham tomorrow. Considering her sudden change in plans, there will not be a protest outside of the school.

“It's disgusting that Secretary McMahon, who visited a charter school in Malden on Monday, is using school children as props to promote the privatization of public education."

“It's disgusting that Secretary McMahon, who visited a charter school in Malden on Monday, is using school children as props to promote the privatization of public education. The Trump administration is following the right-wing playbook to siphon money away from the schools that educate the vast majority of children and attempting to dismantle our public schools dollar by dollar. The administration’s attacks extend into higher education as well, threatening to strip colleges and universities of their accreditation if they do not conform to the right’s political agenda. McMahon's schemes to defund our public schools and destroy public education have no place here in Massachusetts."
